Its activities are predicated on connecting with and serving African Nova Scotian communities. DBDLI identifies and addresses the gaps and educational equity issues through research, publications, and educational resources.

Role Description:

The Youth Outreach and Projects Internship position will under the stewardship of DBDLI staff co-lead and implement current and emerging outreach initiatives and projects. The position will be guided to develop and co-lead the execution of DBDLI youth projects which are public schools, young adult, and community focused. The DBDLI strategic priorities and operation plans will be foundational to the work.

Duties:

The Youth Outreach and Projects Intern will gain and apply learning to assist with developing, planning, co-ordinating and executing DBDLI youth outreach and projects that meet the needs of African Nova Scotian youth and community and advance of the mission of DBDLI. This position will develop the necessary resources to do this work and provide DBDLI with policy, project, and program advice. Engagement of African Nova Scotian youth and collaboration with organizations which serve African Nova Scotian youth round out a holistic approach.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A knowledge of project and budget planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based programming.
  • Experience working with community and organizational leaders.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Self-initiator and able to work under minimal direction
  • Excellent oral, written and social media communication skills
  • Reliable transportation

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in social sciences, human services, sociology, education, and lifelong learning or equivalent
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience working with African Nova Scotian youth and communities
  • Proficient with the application of various social media platforms
  • Knowledge and application Microsoft Office Suite, including Access
