Position Summary:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach Associate of Applied Science-level Welding classes and laboratories, create instructional materials and laboratory experiences, update curriculum as necessary to remain current with the industry, promote the Welding program through local, regional and national engagement, participate in program assessment activities related to accreditation, certification and grant parameters, maintain an advisory board, develop/maintain industry connections, and other activities to assure success of the Welding program.

The successful candidate will also perform duties to include student advising, committee participation, community service and other departmental activities.

This position requires experience in all areas of welding and to perform all tasks related to the welding industry.

Tasks include the following: shop-safety, OSHA and HAZMAT requirements, thermal cutting, soldering and brazing, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW in all positions, pipe welding in all positions, blueprint reading, pattern and layout procedures, fabrication, using a variety of different types of metals, and utilization of related shop equipment.

The successful candidate must possess teaching skills and be able to teach all mentioned disciplines, as well as be able to perform the responsibilities of program coordination that would further include: curriculum development and evaluation, program development and evaluation, technical writing, recruitment, student advising, transcript and work experience evaluation, student registration, advisory board engagement, evaluation and preparation of articulation agreements and prior learning assessments.

The successful candidate will perform repairs and periodic maintenance of equipment assigned to the Welding program.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

50%   A. Provide instruction and training in Welding Technology covering several welding processes. Instruction will cover, but is not limited to, the following welding processes: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW Plate and Pipe), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW Plate and Pipe), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW Plate and Pipe), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW Plate and Pipe), Oxy-fuel cutting, Plasma Arc cutting, blueprint reading, mathematics for welding, welding inspection and welding metallurgy. Assignments will include preparation for AWS certification.

20%   B. Serve as Program Coordinator and work with other faculty, staff, and local industries and organizations to continually refine and improve the Welding program. Such duties to be performed include: involvement in writing grant proposals related to program goals and objectives as well as participate in grant activities; developing new course materials or courses as required to maintain program currency in emerging technologies in  the field of Welding and the development of course work associated with it; completing assessment requirements relative to the program; engaging members of an active advisory board; evaluating and preparing  articulation agreements and prior learning assessments.

10%   C. Advise students. Serve on internal and external committees for the College and the community at large. Work with Business and Community Services department to develop workforce solutions within the area of welding.

10% D. Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and processes relative to welding classes.

5%   E. Share responsibility for day-to-day operation and routine upkeep of classrooms, labs, and equipment

5%    F.  Recruitment of new students. Along with other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Associates degree in Welding, Metals Science (Metallurgy, Composite Science, etc.), or Welding Technology, Industrial Education, Industrial Arts, or Industrial Technology or related field from a regionally accredited college or university with minimum of five (5) years full-time work experience in various welding processes OR Bachelor’s degree in Welding, Metals Science (Metallurgy, Composite Science, etc.), or Welding Technology, Industrial Education, Industrial Arts, or Industrial Technology or related field from a regionally accredited college or university and three (3) years full-time work experience in various welding processes.

Teaching experience at secondary or post-secondary level or experience as a trainer specifically in welding applications.

Be a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Certified Welding Educator (CWE), AWS certified or have a nationally recognized certification in Welding, or have the ability to get certified within 1 year of employment.

Have experience in the following processes: GTAW and GMAW-steel, stainless steel and aluminium, SMAW and FCAW-steel.

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Critical Skills/Expertise/Experience:

Broad, current industry knowledge and practical applied experience in the field of Welding are required along with the ability to translate those knowledge and skill sets into a meaningful learning experience in a classroom or laboratory setting. A willingness to participate as a team member to realize the overall goals of the Welding Program and the grant with which the Welding program is being supported, as well as to prepare students for the workplace and lifelong learning opportunities. A strong desire to work with students and to help them achieve success is required.

Equipment:

Welding equipment to include that required for executing Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW Plate and Pipe), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW Plate and Pipe), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW Plate and Pipe), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW Plate and Pipe). In addition, to actual welding equipment, welding simulators will be used.
