Schedule: 8-hour shift

Experience: Social Media Marketing: 1 year (preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the Africa Centre Communications Coordinator, the Communications and Social Media Assistant is expected to:
  • Work closely with the Africa Centre Communications Coordinator to create and implement social media and communications campaigns
  • Work closely with Africa Centre Communications Coordinator to develop a brand that aligns with Africa Centre values, that is consistent for all programs, across all digital and print channels
  • Provide organizational guidance to all staff to ensure established branding guidelines for the Africa Centre are followed
  • Review appropriate internal and external, communication materials to ensure messages are consistent and adhere to branding
  • Ensure that all social media forums are current and have daily and regular posts
  • Researches, writes, edits and produces content for communication channels including web communications and social media in English and French
  • Develops and distributes print promotional materials including brochures, posters, guidebooks, and signage
  • Assists with the rebranding design and content of Africa Centre website
  • Responsible for writing and distributing press releases, media advisories, backgrounders, fact sheets, articles, key messages, speeches, media pitches and coordinating requests
  • Attend and speak at agency and community events
  • Coordinate media relations with fund development regarding events
  • Priority will be given to candidates who are fluent in English and French

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or in the process of obtaining a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing
  • Skilled in graphic design including Adobe software will be an asset
  • Proven PC skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Detail-oriented, creative and responsible
  • Experience in Social Media strategy and execution
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team and to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
