Description:

Asheville PEAK Academy’s Board of Directors is looking for a dynamic individual to lead our school community of Asheville PEAK Academy – a North Carolina Charter School. Students will attend PEAK Academy beginning August 2021. Asheville PEAK Academy will begin as a K-2 school with approximately 32 to 40 students at each grade level. Asheville PEAK Academy will add one grade each successive year until the 8th grade.

Lead the implementation of a coherent, rigorous, and relevant curriculum across K-2 grade levels – with a keen emphasis on mastering literacy. Engage the community in the mission and vision of Asheville PEAK Academy to promote Year 1 enrolment and to network with community leaders to establish lasting partnerships. If timing allows, assist the Board of Directors in the hiring a staff of proven, results-oriented educators that are aligned with the Mission and Vision of Asheville PEAK Academy for Year 1. Implement all elements of Year 1 – including the master schedule, assessment and diagnostics, and staff professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide onsite leadership for the school, grades K-2 with approximately 100 students.
  • Implement and manage all aspects of educational environment to ensure that Asheville PEAK Academy Mission, Vision, and students achievement goals are met.
  • Provide extensive oversight of curriculum content, student and staff development and evaluation, as well as personnel oversight, facilities maintenance, fiscal and resource management, parental involvement and community engagement. Report to the Board of Directors monthly.
  • Develop and oversee educational programs as outlined by state standards
  • Direct development and implementation of school programs and activities
  • Believe that all students are capable of significant academic growth – regardless of socioeconomic status
  • Provide strong instructional coaching to teachers that moves the needle on student achievement. Will be expected to evaluate lesson plans, observe classes, and lead professional development on a regular basis
  • Implement, manage, and evaluate clear and effective procedures for the operations of the school including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and disciplinary systems.
  • Manage student disciplinary issues and work collaboratively with teachers and parents to support students
  • Support teachers and staff in the analysis and continuous use of data to drive instruction and to celebrate student academic growth
  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Board of Directors

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A proven leader and transformational educator with an unwavering commitment to the Asheville PEAK Academy mission
  • Has a clear track record of using structure, incentives, and high expectations to drive student achievement as a classroom teacher for at least 3 years
  • Demonstrated, quantifiable, and objective student performance gains that surpass state or local averages
  • Proven instructional leader with experience leading or coaching adults as grade level leader, content area lead, assistant principal, principal, or other campus-based leadership role for at least 2 years
  • Capable of working with a variety of learning abilities, including those with previously low academic achievement in a heterogeneously grouped classroom setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with co-workers, parents, and community members.
  • Self-starter with flexibility, creativity, and initiative necessary to contribute to a startup organization. In particular, the candidate must demonstrate a strong ability to create “Foundational” and “Start-Up” documents

  • Graduate of Bachelor’s degree program (required)
  • Classroom experience: 3 years (required)
  • Master’s in Education or Related Field (required)
