Cheekwood is looking for Public Programs Coordinator

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Manages Wellness 360 programming, including but not limited to scheduling classes, workshops, and speakers, researching new program opportunities and seeking new partners. Supervises events when necessary and maintains relationships with vendors.
  • Oversees the programming for and implementation of all dog-related events, including but not limited to Dogs and Dogwoods, Dog Nights of Summer during Thursday Night Out, Pooch Parade, and Dog Portraits with Santa.
  • Plans and organizes the Great Spring Art Hunt.
  • Supports the development of on-site public programs including, but not limited to Seasonal Festivals: Cheekwood in Bloom, Art al Fresco, Summertime at Cheekwood, and Cheekwood Harvest
  • Programs enhancing art exhibitions, botanical garden displays and historic initiatives
  • Supports the planning and execution of the annual cultural celebrations, including but not limited to the African American Cultural Family Celebration, Japanese Moon Viewing, and El Día de Los Muertos
  • Works closely with the museum, garden, and other education staff to develop and implement public programs.
  • Oversees program logistics, planning, and execution, including production, set-up, and tear-down when necessary.
  • Utilizes Altru software to schedule programs and create customer registration.
  • Maintains public programs calendar, attendance statistics and evaluation data.
  • Provides accurate and timely information for marketing and website information.
  • Responsible for managing budget and meeting expense/revenue goals related to public programs.
  • Works as event supervisor as needed on weekends and after hours.
  • Actively researches opportunities for public programs at Cheekwood and prepares cost-benefit analysis for presentation at internal meetings; analyzes the effectiveness and cost-benefit of all programs for annual review; outlines annual goals, schedules, & timelines for all on-site public programs.

Qualifications:

  • An associate, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, or relevant field is preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of one-year public program experience at a museum, botanic garden, or comparable non-profit organization.
  • Self-directed and able to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Able to work varied hours and weekends.
  • Experience managing support staff.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Enjoys working with the public.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign & Photoshop
  • Horticultural knowledge is a plus.
  • First aid training is a plus.
