About Us:
The Global Health Systems (GHS) program is an intra-faculty one-year Professional Master’s Degree. Many of our graduates also gain enriching experiences from their African project placement to complement their professional education in areas like, but not limited to medicine and dentistry.
The African Field School is a 3-week field school (in the summer months) aimed to expose students to various themes that pertain to human health on the ground. The field course involves visiting various health facilities, labs, communities, research institutes, physical environments (eg. forests) and non-governmental organizations in Uganda. The field course aims to create an opportunity for students to establish links between the knowledge they have gained in courses taken throughout the program and practice (ie, the manifestation of health on the ground). Emphasis will be placed on how local contextual factors shape human health and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to health problems.
Responsibilities:
- The Project Coordinator/Manager will be responsible for and manage all the logistical considerations for the Field School abroad.
- Should have the ability to travel to Field School sites and partnering organizations in Uganda to coordinate logistics of Field School itinerary (virtual/ in-person pending on Travel announcements and restrictions applicable at that time)
- Has the ability to coordinate practicum placements with partnering organizations on site/ in-country
- Has familiarity with customs and norms in host country for both Field School and Practicums
- Facilitates booking and payments for facilities in Uganda in consultation with Director and Associate Directors of the Global Health Systems Program and the Program Project Coordinator and Graduate Program Coordinator
- Monitors and summarizes progress and results. The incumbent will engage various stakeholders, ensure project support and sponsorship, and provide leadership and direction to the project team.
Education: Undergraduate Degree; Project Management Professional certification preferred
Experience: 2 years’ work experience in a related field
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Familiarity with best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people
- Familiarity with project life cycles
- Familiarity with techniques for planning, managing and coordinating multiple projects, with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders
- Project management skills to ensure team roles are clear, milestones are communicated and deadlines are met
- Familiarity with best practices for change management
- Communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with all levels of the organization
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach employees to meet high performance standards
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
- Strong client focus with a desire to achieve results
