Location Based in the Cato Ridge clinic in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • The primary healthcare nurse has overall accountability and oversight of North Star’s clinical functions and medical care delivery to ensure the delivery of the highest value healthcare services in the Cato Ridge fee-for-service clinic.
  • The nurse will perform a range of functions and activities requiring robust knowledge of clinical care delivery.
  • The nurse will be required to balance the duties of a medical service provider and that of an administrator.
  • The nurse will provide direct care to patients with all types of illnesses and ailments, offering the first level of nursing care that patients receive.
  • She/he is a Registered Nurse who is competent to independently render appropriate and skilled primary care service as first line care.

Responsibilities:

Health service delivery, Team Management, Clinical Quality Assurance, Business Management. Performing other positions appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have qualified and registered as a nurse Basic qualification accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in terms of government notice 425 (Diploma/Degree in nursing).
  • Post basic nursing qualification with duration of at least one year accredited with SANC –government notice number R48 in the relevant specialty (PHC).
  • Dispensing course and NIMART certificate, Understanding of healthcare in South Africa.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in primary healthcare is essential. Minimum of five (5) years of managed care experience required.
  • Knowledge in public health, non – communicable diseases and communicable diseases especially HIV care in lower- and middle-income countries.
  • Previous experience working with national HIV programmes in sub-Saharan Africa is an asset. Proficiency with managed care environment with a philosophy of collaboration and teamwork. Computer literate; proficiency with Microsoft Office. Possess valid driver’s license.
