City of Danbury is looking for a Part-Time Electrical Inspector

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Examines plans and specifications with applications to permit residential, commercial and industrial electrical installations.
- Reviews and approves construction documents for compliance with State Building Code.
- Enforces the State electrical code throughout the City of Danbury and makes interim, rough, and final inspections, as necessary.
- Responds to calls or complaints regarding defective, inadequate or illegal wiring. Reports all violations of electrical installations and directs and inspects all corrections.
- Verifies that electricians are licensed and qualified in accordance with state law.
- Provides court testimony and support documentation in defines of City enforcement actions. Prepares daily reports and maintains records of inspections and activities.
- Meets with architects, engineers, contractors and developers to review and comment on plans for remodelling and new construction projects.
- Attends mandatory continuing education courses/seminars (90 hours to maintain license every 3 years) to maintain required certifications and knowledge of changes in the state code; attends OSHA training for exposure to hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Recommends issuance of written orders for corrective action or cease-work orders when necessary. Recommends issuance of permits for installations, alterations and repairs of electrical systems. Prepares reports of inspections including conditions found and action taken or recommended.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge:
- Must have working knowledge of the Connecticut State Building Code and specifically the sections pertaining to the inspection of electrical services as adopted and amended; working knowledge of electrical wiring trade work techniques and practices, state and national codes related to the installation and/or repair of electrical systems.
Abilities:
- Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with the public and other personnel, perform multiple tasks, read and interpret electrical plans and blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications; deal with customers which may be at times, difficult or disgruntled, and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to inspect project and installations in various states of progress and to evaluate material and workmanship for compliance with codes, laws, and regulations; ability to interpret codes, ordinances and regulations; ability to follow written and oral instructions; skilled in written and verbal expression.
- Must be able to access the Internet to obtain information in support of department operations and job duties. Ability to read, interpret, and enforce rules and codes in a consistent and impartial manner.
Skills:
- Conducting inspections, making observations, and recording information. Proficient oral and written communication skills. Proficient customer service skills.
Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in electrical construction work.
Training and Education:
Must have a High School diploma or an associate degree or journeyman’s level of trade knowledge and three to five (3 – 5) years of prior electrical trade work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job in the sole determination of the City.
A candidate for this position is required to have a valid Class II Motor vehicle operator’s license. Applicant must have a valid E1 “unlimited Contractor” license or an E2 “Unlimited Journeyman” license for not less than two (2) years.
Special Requirements: State of CT Electrical Inspector’s License preferred
