A celebrated boutique travel company specialising in tailor-made luxury safari and beach holidays throughout Southern & Eastern Africa, as well as the Indian Ocean islands, needs a luxury travel consultant to add value and improve potential and existing customer’s brand experience by creating bespoke travel itineraries for international (often high profile) visitors to the African continent. What are the basic job requirements?
- The company is on the lookout for someone with at least three years’ experience as a sales consultant, with a solid background in luxury African travel and extensive knowledge of properties and packages throughout the continent and its adjacent islands.
- The ideal applicant will be fluent in written and spoken English, have their own transport and hold a valid South African work permit.
- Experience in the Eastern & Southern African tourism industry is required, and knowledge of rates negotiation with lodges, as well as systems like WETU or Globe Track will be a great plus.
- Personal drive, excellent organisation skills and the ability to collaborate, show initiative and an innate love of responsible travel are key to being successful in this position.
- The chosen candidate will display the confidence and experience to drive sales and marketing projects and develop the brand’s online presence over various networks.
- A thorough Type A personality (detailed, disciplined, exacting) would be best suited to the job, and excellent correspondence skills (both written, in emails, and spoken, over the telephone), are non-negotiable.
- High proficiency in MS Word and Excel is a requirement as well.
What will the job involve?
The job involves the creation of detailed luxury travel itineraries for discerning international clients from start to finish – initial contact, quoting, proposals, bookings, etc. Along the way you will guide the client, provide travel advice, support them remotely throughout their journey and follow up post-trip. This will include the preparation of any required travel documents and planners, as well as invoicing. Additionally, the chosen candidate will work to meet sales targets and contribute to refining the company’s sales funnel, as well as fostering mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers. This will involve rate negotiations as well as the maintenance of product and supplier contracts. Social media marketing assistance, site inspections, sales reporting and possible international trade show attendance will also be expected.
