In One Generation, Inc is looking for a Lead and Assistant Teacher/Counsellor for Summer Camp
About:
One Generation Camp is a non-profit, outdoor music and dance camp for children ages 5-11. We are a small camp based out of Tilden park operating daily Monday-Friday, June 7- July 16. The hours of camp are 9-3, and we request that teachers arrive at 8:30 to help with set-up as well as to be available for the full 6 weeks.
Twice a day, specialized teachers come to camp to teach for hour-long classes. Campers are taught about the history and origin of the various music/dance forms they learn. Currently, we offer West African drumming, West African dance, Brazilian Capoeira, Cuban Rhythm and Dance, Brazilian Dance, and Body Percussion/Stepping. Between the classes, we go on a hike, offer games and activities, and have free time. We place a strong emphasis on teaching kindness and community which we accomplish through circles and various team-building activities.

Job Description:
Lead teachers/counsellors will help facilitate both individual and group dynamics, transitions, and the general flow of the group. Lead teachers are expected to have previous experience with children and groups, conflict management, child dynamics, and ideally have a few tricks up their sleeves with fun games and team building activities that can be played. Assistants are expected to have previous experience with children, be willing to learn, and to follow the lead teacher’s direction as needed. We expect all teachers to come ready to plan, have fun, smile (even under the COVID mask), learn, be safe, be flexible, and be present with the campers.
Note:
The ideal candidate, although not necessary, has a background in music, dance, movement, yoga, mindfulness, and/or the outdoors, will be an advantage. It is always great to have teachers come to teach the campers about something new!
