About Company:
Our Editorial Department is seeking a Junior Staff Writer for our digital publication, West African Times, a weekly newspaper with an emphasis on business and economic news in the West African region. This is an entry-level position for an individual with an interest in journalism and trade, economy, and business news, specifically relating to West Africa, and the wider Sub-Saharan region.
Requirements:
- The candidate must be able to produce high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines; possess strong news judgment; have strong research and writing skills and be fluent in English.
- Candidates must be independent-minded and be able to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Deliver quality, relevant and well-written copy as directed by the editors and other senior editorial staff
- Generate appropriate feature/news leads and ideas for the publication
- Plan, write and manage copy deadlines according to best editorial practice
- Be responsible for and deliver any administrative tasks set by senior staff
- Be an ambassador for West African Times, promoting the publication both online and offline
