The Impact and Innovation Coordinator will work collaboratively across the CEI, and with its partners, to foster a culture of innovation and will explore effective approaches to impact measurement, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge mobilization for social innovation and collective impact. As part of a learning organization, the coordinator will be responsible for sharing learnings, building capacity, and embedding emergent, responsive practices throughout the organization. This ensures CEI’s approaches, strategies, and decision-making processes are evidence informed.

Reporting to the Manager of Engagement and Partnerships and supported by the CEI team, the successful candidate will further advance their skills, knowledge and experience in innovation strategy and implementation, collaborative problem-solving and decision-making tools and methods, strategic partnership and network development, and inclusive employment services and career development approaches. Guided by the mandate of the CEI and the Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Ecosystem, the successful candidate will contribute to our collective vision – a robust, productive and inclusive Nova Scotian workforce that represents and celebrates our province’s diversity and embraces opportunity and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Impact and Innovation Coordinator will:

  • Analyse and translate complex research results into clear, key messages for diverse audiences.
  • Produce high quality, evidence-based outputs (summaries, reports, research papers, case studies, articles and proposals) that inform decision-making and provide actionable insights.
  • Participate in designing, writing and submitting ethics proposals, academic papers, accessible and engaging conference presentations (including presentations), funding proposals, grants, and abstracts for social innovation and collective impact projects.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEI team and stakeholders to conduct participatory research, pilot innovative approaches to impact measurement, document findings and disseminate learnings. This may include direct engagement (for example, in research design, data collection and analysis, report writing, facilitation, capacity building) as well as in an advisory capacity.

  • A minimum of three years of related experience (volunteer or paid work) in the following areas:
  • Collaborating effectively with multi-stakeholder groups
  • Working within complexity, with a solid understanding of complex systems and approaches
  • Using social innovation, collective impact, and community development approaches
  • Conducting person-centred research (participatory action research / community-based)
  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., community development; social innovation; business; natural and social sciences; adult education; public policy; or another related field) OR Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one (1) year of experience conducting research OR Minimum of three (3) years of experience conducting research.
  • Ability to undertake qualitative and quantitative research design and implementation activities including knowledge/ experience with research methods, research ethics applications, primary data collection/ analysis activities, annotated bibliographies, and literature reviews.
  • Experience designing and facilitating effective learning and sharing opportunities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that embody empathy, kindness, curiosity and openness, with the ability to adapt content and approach to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Willing and able to travel to meetings and events as required when it is safe to do so.
  • Previous experience supervising and supporting student assistants, researchers, or interns.
  • Bilingualism/multilingualism.
  • Experience with data analysis software such as MAXQDA, SPSS.
  • Experience with return on investment (ROI) or social return on investment (SROI) frameworks.
