Job Description:
Black Health Matters is looking for a part-time health content writer to join our growing team. This position is fully remote, with occasional opportunities to attend or participate in live events and programs. The health content writer role is a part-time 1099 contractor position.
This position provides the opportunity to be part of an impactful team that works to educate and improve the health literacy within the Black community.
Responsibilities:
- Writing, editing, scheduling, and posting articles to the Black Health Matters website on a regular basis
- Pitching, researching, and fact-checking various health-related content
- Produce quality written material for Black Health Matters and our clients in a professional and timely manner
- Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ensure that content authored has a cohesive health and wellness voice across all Black Health Matters content
- Ensure that all information created is archived for future needs and reference
- Translating health studies and terms and breaking down complex topics using a unique voice and editorial approach
- Developing Black Health Matters unique perspective on health and wellness content for the Black community
- Implementing effective SEO strategies for our website and content
- Creating content for and editing weekly newsletters.
- Oversee, manage, and direct part-time writers
- Attend weekly company status meetings
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional writing experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field
- Solid understanding of a broad range of health topics including nutrition, mental health, fertility, health disparities, etc.
- Excellent grammar and written communication skills
- Strong journalistic judgment and fact-checking standards
- Experience with WordPress strongly preferred
- Familiar with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices
- Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and adapt quickly to change
- Ability to self-motivate and be a team player
- Tasks require a strong attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week
