Able ARTS Work was established in 1981 as a non-profit organization to provide inclusive services for individuals with developmental disabilities, autism and ALL people through the creative arts therapies and education, music, dance/movement, drama/theater, visual arts, media and digital arts. Over the last 39 years, Able ARTS Work has expanded to provide creative services and opportunities to the broader community including marginalized and underserved communities, youth at risk, children in a school setting and art enthusiasts throughout Southern California.

Schedule:

40 hours a week Monday –Friday 8:30am-4:30 pm.

This is a summer that internship will take place over the course of 10 consecutive weeks

Description:

Under the supervision of the Exhibits Coordinator and the Director of Community Advancement the Getty Marrow Intern will provide support in the Exhibits department assisting with the exhibits archive and supporting the Able ARTS Work Gallery at 2nd and PCH. Through the course of the internship the intern will gain skills transferrable to work at a professional gallery or museum, in various aspects of exhibition development, including conceptualization, preparation, instillation, and ADA compliance for an inclusive exhibition.

The Getty Marrow intern will also play a key role in the continued development of archiving and cataloging collection of multi-media artwork.

Responsibilities:

Intern will assist with gallery archive, digital and physical. This will include photographing, editing photos, creating labels, organizing art in digital files as well as organizing and shelving physical art pieces.

Intern will assist with set up and take down of exhibits, with the support of the Exhibits Coordinator, Intern will plan a digital art show

Intern will provide support for AAW community-based gallery at 2nd & PCH. This may include inventory of artworks, record sales of artwork, design digital media featuring AAW artists work for printed materials, create social media material to promote gallery.

Intern will assist with updating resident artist portfolios and CV/resumes.

Eligibility of the Internship:

The Getty Marrow internships are intended for outstanding students who are members of groups underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations, including but not limited to individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent.

Eligibility for the internships is limited to currently enrolled undergraduates who reside in or attend college in Los Angeles County. Students must have completed at least one semester of college.
