Description of Grand View Manor:

GVM is a non-profit long-term care home with 5 nursing home units, 142 residents, and over 200 staff. One of the units is a secure unit for people with dementia and wandering behaviour. We also have an attached assisted living complex (30 units), and an enriched housing complex (40 units). GVM staffing includes Nursing (Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Continuing Care Assistants), Dietary / Food Services, Environmental Services (Laundry, Housekeeping, Maintenance), Chaplaincy, Recreation, OT/PT/PTA and Administrative Support.

Position Summary:

Responsible for tray set-up and delivery to Grand View Manor residents and other clients, portioning and serving of food, setting-up and clearing tables in dining rooms, dishwashing. Food Service Workers must be aware of various textures and types of diets. Position may involve vegetable, sandwich, salad, dessert, nourishment, etc. preparation and service. All employees are involved with equipment and area cleaning and sanitation. FSWs are responsible for completing daily temperature checks of refrigeration equipment, all food equipment and pot sinks according to Quality Assurance Standards. FSWs are responsible for receiving weekly food orders and other related duties as required. Preparation and handling of food items in accordance with strict sanitary regulations; safe handling of dishware and equipment to avoid contamination.

Qualifications:

• Prepare various food items such as vegetables, salads and sandwiches
• Prepare nourishments & deliver supplies to resident kitchens
• Portion and serve desserts, bread, rolls, etc.
• Set up trays and tables according to diets and department specifications
• Serve menu items
• Deliver and pick up tray carts in resident areas
• Strip trays and tables/reset as necessary
• Clean dishware, pots & pans, etc.
• Perform routine cleaning/sanitation in work area, etc. as needed
• Grade XII or equivalent.
• Previous foodservice and long-term care experience is desirable.
• Resident-centeredness and passion for working with older people an asset
• Candidate must have a good attendance record
• Completion of Food Service Workers’ course. Additional training, such as the Food handler’s Course, or other food safety education program, WHMIS, etc. is encouraged and registration is necessary for employment at Grand View Manor.
