Black Business Initiative (BBI) is looking for a Field Officer

The BBI is committed to growing a stronger Black presence in Nova Scotia’s business community, acting as a catalyst for job creation, equitable participation and advancing the economic prosperity of Nova Scotia. In 1996, the Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia set up the BBI to address the unique needs confronting the Black business community in Nova Scotia.

The Project:

The Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI) was created by the Federal government through Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to help increase the capacity of grassroots not-for-profit organizations serving Black communities in Canada. The Black Business Initiative is one of three organizations selected to deliver this project using an intermediary delivery model.

Position Profile:

Reporting to the Project Lead, this position will be responsible for engaging with various stakeholders, organizations, and communities. The task will involve working directly with sub-agreement holder organizations, including assisting them during the application process, following up and providing information on the status of the application, as well as monitoring and tracking performance metrics for funded organizations.

How you will succeed:

  • Maintaining and monitoring project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures
  • Manage client performance as it relates to grant agreement and provide guidance and counselling as required
  • Promote organization development and growth
  • Network to attract potential regional organizations for project success and develop strategic relationships
  • Organize and participate in stakeholder meetings
  • Prepare presentation materials for meetings
  • Manage project deadlines
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation in line with the signed agreement
  • Monitor project progress by tracking activity, resolving problems, publishing progress reports, recommending actions
  • Ensure stakeholder views are managed
  • Create a project management calendar
  • Prepare reports on project performance
  • Regional travel to deliver presentations and workshops

Requirements:

  • A university degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce, economics, finance, marketing, or a related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience in project management or a related field
  • Experience and Knowledge of Public Relations
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet)
  • Familiarity with diversity and inclusion issues as relating to the Black community

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Schedule: 8-hour shift

Experience: Community Development or Relevant: 3 years (Preferred)
