Job Description:

We seek to fill a Family Partner position, offering culturally specific supports to Black/African American families. Family partners support families enrolled in Multnomah County’s Wraparound Program ~ walking alongside families, to optimize the mental health services their child is receiving. A key feature of the Family Partner program is that staff themselves are the parent or caregiver of a child who experiences mental health, developmental disabilities, child welfare, juvenile justice systems, to teach, empower, advocate, model, and support Wraparound families.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Support families to fully participate in the Wraparound process.
  • Connect families with information on mental health conditions, various treatment options, child service systems, provider agencies, service options, NAMI, and community resources.
  • Learn the family’s story, strengths, needs and cultural perspective, and serve as a bridge to assure that the family and providers understand each other’s perspective
  • Participate in family/professional meetings to assure that youth and family voices are heard, and choices are respected.
  • Provide a consistent source of encouragement and hope while also providing non-judgmental, unconditional support to parents and caregivers.
  • Model effective coping techniques.
  • Produce and maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Understand and follow all HIPAA guidelines regarding personal medical information.
  • Provide services in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Collaborate with family advocacy and support organizations to enhance consumer voice and representation in consumer mental health.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have lived experience as the parent or caregiver of a child who has experienced mental, emotional, and/or behavioural health problems.
  • Must be able to complete an AMH-approved Peer Support Specialist Training and register as a Traditional Health Worker with the State of Oregon before or immediately after hire.
  • Must pass a background check to the satisfaction of Multnomah County’s Health Department.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and a reliable, fully insured vehicle for daily use.

Job Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • Be the parent or caregiver of a child who has received high levels of mental health services or has been involved with multiple child service systems.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Some knowledge of Intensive Treatment Services including psychiatric residential services, psychiatric day treatment, State Hospital Secure Children’s Inpatient Program (SCIP), Secure Adolescent Program (SAIP), and/or treatment foster care.
  • Good reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Able to negotiate resolutions.
  • Strong coordination and collaboration, excellent customer service skills.
  • Some knowledge, understanding, or experience with case management.
  • Be familiar with issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, and possess skills or strategies to support individuals and families across various populations.
  • Be familiar with issues of poverty, race/ethnicity, mental health/addictions and the impact those issues place on day-to-day life for families.
