Description of role:
If your career goal is to be a farm manager, zookeeper, biologist, naturalist, veterinarian, vet tech, or wildlife educator, Wild Hearts is a great place to gain experience. This is an entry-level unpaid position designed for college students and adults seeking experience in an animal husbandry related field.
Tasks:
You will be trained to care for a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles on our beautiful farm property. Animal husbandry duties include food preparation, providing enrichment, cleaning stalls, maintaining exhibits, weighing animals, trimming nails, grounds upkeep and working outside in all weather conditions. You will learn to assist with our mobile outreach programs and onsite guided tours.
Skills and requirements:
Must be able to lift 50lbs. You must be dependable, demonstrate a sense of urgency, possess attention to detail and be able to follow directions. Public transportation is not available at our location, so you must provide your own reliable transportation. Please tell us why you would like to be a part of our Wild Hearts team!
Work schedule:
Daily start time is typically 9am and goes until mid-afternoon, a minimum of three days per week, including weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays. This role requires interns to be on time as our team meeting starts right at the beginning of the shift. Occasional afternoon or evening shifts are required. We are flexible and try to work around your class/job schedule. Hours vary from 15-25 hours per week and a minimum of 12 weeks is required.
