Children in Conflict, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that supports essential efforts to provide vital protection, education and hope to the lives of children living in conflict affected countries. As a result of conflict, all too often children are hurt and lose their life chances. Our support helps give them their childhood back and the chance to build a better future for themselves.
We deliver our support to children with our partners War Child UK. Children in Conflict strives to raise awareness and funds for the critical programs War Child UK provides to children in conflict zones. Together, we have one shared vision; a world in which children’s lives are no longer torn apart by war.

The Opportunity:
Established in 2017 Children in Conflict are small but mighty. With a team of talented fundraisers and some special high-profile Ambassadors we have built a community of committed supporters, major donors, corporate partners and volunteer committees offering some of the best expertise in the world. Children in Conflict enjoys committed support from the music and entertainment industries, notably from our Ambassadors Brandi Carlile, Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford. Our events have included appearances from John Oliver, Sam Smith, Phoebe Bridgers and Gregory Porter. The stage has been set for the next phase of organizational growth.
Children in Conflict are about to begin the implementation of a new strategic plan, geared towards taking the organization to the next level in how we can best support the needs of children affected by conflict. With that, we are looking for an experienced, dynamic Executive Director to stand front and center of the organization and lead the way to success.
The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives.
Overall Responsibilities:
- Work to ensure the organization remains in-line to achieve its mission, and to guide the team to reach strategic goals
- Provide leadership in developing organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the US Fundraising and Philanthropy landscape
- Ensure all stakeholders adhere to the Child Safeguarding Policy
Fundraising-
- Hire and oversee development staff to ensure a robust and diverse annual fundraising plan is executed to achieve our annual grant making ambitions
- Steward major donor and key funding relationships including leadership donors and high-profile Ambassadors and supporters
- Engage the board in fundraising and network building on behalf of the organization
- Be a chief advocate and spokesperson for the organization to ensure it is top of mind with key partners and donors
Communications-
- Ensure the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and important factors influencing it
- Develop, implement, manage, and track effectiveness of social media campaigns and other communication channels such as the newsletter; work in close collaboration with Fundraising and Communications Assistant to fulfil this objective
- Always represent the organization and be an advocate for the programs we deliver. Communicate the purpose of the organization to relevant actors, donors and the general public
Financial Performance-
- Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices
- Work with the team, Treasurer, and board in preparing a budget; manage the budget to ensure the organization operates within guidelines
- Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work
- Oversee annual audits and ensure the timely annual filing of Financial Statements and Form 990
Organizational Leadership-
- Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers
- Ensure that job descriptions are developed, regular performance evaluations are held, and sound human resource practices are in place
- Encourage staff professional development and education
- Maintain a climate and culture that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse and talented staff
Required Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years’ experience of organizational leadership experience in Philanthropy based fundraising roles, with proven experience cultivating major donor relationships
- A strong can-do attitude with the willingness and flexibility to wear multiple hats as and when needed
- A builder of authentic relationships with partners, funders and other supporters, able to speak in a clear and compelling manner about the organization’s goals and priorities
- Experienced in implementing successful fundraising operations for their organization, including building successful revenue-generating program partnerships and the cultivation and stewardship of philanthropic partners
- Culturally competent and self-reflective leader who understands the effects of race, class, ethnicity, income, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, and other issues of difference in society and is able to lead direct conversations about them
- Skilled in strategic planning, project management, and organization; able to focus on and communicate priorities while not losing sight of the details and align vision with defined values
- Mature emotional intelligence who is comfortable in managing relationships across all levels of an organization
- A leader with an entrepreneurial spirit who is excited to greatly expand a small non-profit
