Aslan Youth Ministries is a faith-based non-profit grounded in Judeo-Christian values that was founded in 1975 to serve urban, at-risk children in Monmouth County. Aslan’s programs include Mentoring & Tutoring, Right Choices Character Development, Educational Enrichment, Recreation & Summer Camps.
Our impact on children is multiplied exponentially by the hundreds of volunteers who give of their time and talent each year. We are currently looking for a highly motivated individual to hire as our Director of Volunteers.

Job Description:
It is the mission of the Director of Volunteers to fully support the overall mission of providing programs directly impacting the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of disadvantaged African American youth (and their families) through management of the Aslan volunteers:
ensuring all volunteers successfully accomplish their personal missions with Aslan.
ensuring the talents and gifts of all volunteers are fully utilized for the encouragement and enrichment of the children and families served.
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment, screening and general management of volunteers for all programs
- Motivation of all volunteers through regular, systematic contact in person & by phone
- Initial orientation of volunteers and introduction to them of Aslan programs and procedures
- Volunteer recognition
- Record keeping of all volunteers regarding personal information, beginning date, number of years served, and areas served in
- Regular contact with churches, businesses and organizations regarding volunteer recruitment.
- Volunteer Training & Procedure Manual
- Volunteer Newsletter
- Other tasks and responsibilities as needed by Aslan and delegated by the Executive Director.
Skill Set:
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Good typing and computer skills
- Good “people” skills: ability to work well with individuals of all types and temperaments.
- Understanding and appreciation of the particular problems facing impoverished African-American youth and their families and the devastating effects of these problems in the children’s’ lives.
Statistics:
Monthly report listing new volunteers recruited, volunteers lost (and reasons) and any other problems or developments with current volunteers.
Deliverables:
- Contact (or ensure other Aslan staff contact) each volunteer on a regular basis by phone & in person
- Regularly visit Aslan activities and events to stay abreast of changes and progress in all areas of the ministry
- Plan at least one major annual event to recognize Aslan volunteers
- Coordinate Christmas event to bring together staff, volunteers and donors
- Devise ways to systematically recognize volunteers, with special emphasis during National Volunteer Week
- Publish bi-monthly Volunteer Newsletter
- Keep Volunteer Manual updated on yearly basis.
