Note: This position reports directly to the Pastor

Job Overview:

Create an atmosphere of celebration and reverence to God through music for all worship services. Lead and direct the Church music program to include choir(s), vocal, instrumental and other phases/expressions of musical experience in consultation with the Pastor and Worship Coordinator. Foster an innovative, blended style of music to enhance and support the worship message goals.

Responsibilities:

• Provide inspiring and motivational music ministry during all worship services
• Be the lead keyboard/organist while providing vocal leadership to choir and praise team members
• Plan, organize and lead the music ministry, contributing to its growth and flourishing
• Rehearse or otherwise insure preparedness of the choir, ensemble, and soloists weekly
• Improve the musicality of singers by teaching proper vocal technique
• Spread vitality and engage the congregation through the musical worship experience
• Help bridge generational/cultural differences by selecting a balance of musical styles for every service which will, as a whole, have multigenerational appeal, and presenting the music to the congregation in a manner in which all can connect with God
• Demonstrate artistic creativity in the worship experience.
• Provide opportunities for interested members to become worship leaders or other forms of music ministry specialists, according to their calling
• Promote fellowship within and help recruit new volunteers into the music ministry

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Committed disciple of Jesus Christ, seeking to know, love and serve God & neighbor, and also committed to continual spiritual growth
• Astute keyboardist and vocalist (preferably able to play both piano and organ; preference to musicians who are skilled at both reading music and playing by ear)
• A passion for and ability to lead a wide range of African American sacred music
• Ability to lead, inspire and engage the congregation during the worship experience
• Music background by education or experience and teaching ability sufficient to coach and guide all the members of the music ministry.
• Experience as a worship leader
• Experience directing musical ensembles
• References from the Pastor of the candidate’s current or last church or other verifiable references of the candidates musical and leadership skills
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to effectively collaborate with both the church staff and administrators as well as the other members of the music ministry
