General Description:

Africatown Community Land Trust (ACLT) seeks a dynamic and mission driven Development Professional to support our short and long-term strategies of preserving and developing the African American and African diaspora community growth and thrive in place initiatives. The successful candidate will be highly skilled at writing grant proposals, preparing presentations to potential donors and stakeholders, and donor relationship management. They are committed to making a measurable impact in BIPOC Communities by developing fundraising strategies to fund programs that address immediate barriers faced by community members.

The Development Director is primarily responsible for developing and leading all aspects of fundraising. This includes working closely with the CEO, fund development team, strategic partners, and the board of directors to coordinate existing philanthropy efforts through individual giving, donor events, major gift solicitation, and corporate/foundation/government grant cultivation. Emphasis will also be placed on agency marketing and public relations such as communications, publications, special events and media relations.

Duties:

  • Fund Development:
  • Develop and implement Africatown Community Land Trust’s capital fundraising plan and capital campaign to meet each year’s fundraising goals.
  • Work with the CEO to facilitate gift solicitations and grant cultivation.
  • Work with strategic partners to identify and pursue collaborative fundraising efforts
  • Support the board in their fundraising efforts.
  • Write and produce donor solicitations, acknowledgements, and funder reports.
  • Create donor communication materials in print and online.
  • Set up and manage donor database and other tools to track pledges and gifts, as well as grant commitments.
  • Data entry and report generation on a regular basis.
  • Interface with the accounting department to reconcile donor data.
  • Cultivate relationships with individual donors and other current/potential funders to meet annual goals. This includes donor meetings to deepen donor relationships.
  • Coordinate logistics for fundraising events utilizing staff and volunteers.
  • Attend and occasionally represent ACLT at networking functions and community events.
  • Manage agency marketing and public relations including updating website/social media periodically with current information and announcements and responding to media requests.
  • Coordinate the collection of client stories between staff and clients.
  • Collaborate with external fundraising professionals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Grant Writing:

  • Gather and synthesize information and draft proposals, reports, and other communications to foundation, corporate, and government funders in support of productions, education and community engagement programs, and other ongoing annual activities
  • Keep the donor database up to date with upcoming application and reporting deadlines
  • Maintain and update Seattle Rep’s library of boilerplate institutional language and standard proposal attachments pertaining to our core program areas
  • Support Institutional Partnerships Director and Corporate Partnerships Director in drafting attachments for complex, project-based institutional funding requests

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certification or completion certificate in Professional Fundraising, Fundraising Executive, Fundraising Management, or similar or
  • 3 years’ experience fundraising, sponsorship solicitation and/or strategic partnerships with evidence of growing donors’ giving year-upon-year
  • Experience in direct solicitation of major gifts from individual donors of $5,000+, or equivalent sales experience
  • Demonstrated commitment and knowledge of racial equity and social justice issues faced by Black communities
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience with the grant writing process and demonstrated experience with successfully procuring grants
  • Experience with donor databases and event management software
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities effectively
  • Comfort working autonomously and as part of a team, as well as the ability to work varied hours, including nights and weekends as necessary
  • Knowledge of and interest in financial markets, wealth and asset management and other areas of intersection that may influence giving
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • A demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals and deadlines under pressure
  • Reliable transportation – some driving will be required for work

Desired qualifications:

  • BA degree in marketing, business management, sales or similar (or equivalent education and experience)
  • 3 years’ experience fundraising, sponsorship solicitation and/or strategic partnerships with evidence of growing donors’ giving year-upon-year
  • Experience in direct solicitation of major gifts from individual donors of $25,000+, or equivalent sales experience
  • Experience with Little Green Light donor databases and event management software
  • Knowledge of local and national philanthropic landscape
  • Experience with basic prospect research tools
