About:

Melanin MeetUps is a dynamic think tank that shapes the African American (AA) experience across media, data, research and policy. Founded in 2017, they design private monthly spaces where AAs meet to heal, connect and ideate ways to shape industry and policy for domestic and global impact. Through its MeetUps, they have profiled leading figures and luminaries in its 7053-editorial blog; as well as raised funds for political candidates and developed partnerships with leading production companies such as Chelsea Handler Productions, Russell Wilson Enterprise (RWE), Bunim/Murray and Stitcher podcast to name a few.

We’re looking for a dynamic Community organizer intern to help grow our budding business and establish chapters across the country around our initiatives and organization at Melanin MeetUps. Melanin MeetUps is a think tank that creates private monthly spaces for African Americans to help heal, connect and ideate to shape our experience through industry and policy.

Location: USA

Job Type: Full-time

This internship is unpaid yet will work with intern to receive credit

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Education: Bachelor’s (Preferred)

License/Certification: Driver’s License (Preferred)

Objectives:

  • Work closely with founder to develop strategy around community organizing for Melanin MeetUps and expansion of Melanin MeetUps across the country and target population
  • Work closely with PR team and Social to develop strategic marketing outreach for expansion of Melanin MeetUps
  • Develop strategy around Melanin MeetUps social policy initiatives like The Better Together Project connecting with
  • Develop strategic partnerships with niche organizations around Melanin MeetUps materials such as 10 point plan, promises, etc.
  • Identify and develop member leaders for chapter creations of our monthly meetups.
  • Become brand advocate of Melanin MeetUps

Qualifications:

  • 2 years previous experience working as a community organizer
  • Special interest in building connection, unity and strength amongst the African American community
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; minimum associate degree required.
  • Knowledge of mental health, marketing, think-tanks a plus
  • Outgoing personality and ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage diverse projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
  • Positive, proactive and personable team player.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Comfort with social media and digital communication preferred.
  • Graphic design skills preferred.
