About REST:

Real Escape from the Sex Trade was founded in 2009. Our mission is to provide pathways to freedom, safety, and hope for victims of sex trafficking and people involved in the sex trade by providing tailored services to meet their complex and specific needs. REST serves over 500 victims and survivors each year and strives to serve survivors of all cultural/racial backgrounds and gender identities. We aim to build a team and cultivate a work atmosphere that reflects the individuals who access services at REST (44% African American, 38% Caucasian, 8% Native American, 4% Latinx and 3% Asian and Pacific Islander). Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 40 per week, Advocates typically work Monday – Friday or Monday – Thursday, though occasional evenings and/or weekends are expected

About Job Role:

REST Community Advocates are responsible for building trusting relationships with individuals who are involved in or exiting the sex trade and assist them to prioritize self-identified goals, develop a plan to reach those goals, and make referrals for services to accommodate their goal plan. REST seeks to provide trauma-informed, strengths-based services that empower individuals to take the steps they want toward self-sufficiency. This role is specifically focused toward serving victims and survivors of sexual exploitation in the South King County area.

Roles:

  • An expert on resources and community services that meet the needs of survivors of sex trafficking
  • Specialize in motivational interviewing and goal planning with clients in South King County

Responsibilities:

  • Implement trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered case management for survivors of sex trafficking
  • Manage an active case load of 15-20 individuals, monitored and determined based on level of need
  • Utilize motivational interviewing as a primary tool for enhancing each clients self-efficacy and sense of agency
  • Manage intake, create individualized service plans, and maintain notes for each client
  • Explore each client’s strengths, needs, and culture across life domains to build an informed and integrated goal plan that supports their emotional, physical, and spiritual needs
  • Assist clients in accessing resources to help meet their individualized goals
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization support
  • Provide transportation for clients as needed to help meet their individualized goals
  • Follow agency guidelines related to professional boundaries with clients, colleagues, and partner agencies at all times
  • Utilize prevention and deescalation tactics to avoid violence or behavior problems, and follow the escalation protocol in the event of unsafe behavior
  • Assist in supporting and/or facilitating daytime/evening programing at the REST drop-in center
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, quarterly REST meetings, and other meetings as assigned by supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with survivors of commercial sexual exploitation or bachelor’s degree in social services
  • Must have a history of demonstrating a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to care for victims of trauma
  • Knowledgable on the topic of sex trafficking and the sex trade
  • Ability to respond to crisis and/or escalated behavior with calm and confidence
  • Ability to organize, discern, and problem-solve creatively
  • Flexible – able to respond to directives in a timely manner
  • Must be able to engage in active listening and relay accurate information
  • Able to effectively work in a diverse workplace, and be self-aware regarding issues of race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion/spirituality and disability
  • Excellent professional and interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport and trust
  • Must be able to thrive in a high intensity, and often unpredictable work environment, responding to escalated behavior with calm and confidence
  • Committed interest in the issues surrounding sexual exploitation and complex trauma
  • Strong sense of self identification, personal coping skills, emotion regulation and conflict resolution
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs and lift up to 30 lbs
  • Technology skills: iPhone; email; basic computer skills, Microsoft Office, Google Drive
  • Must have current drivers license, access to transportation, and a clean driving record
