Function/Duties of Position:

  • The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
  • Provide direct mental health and addictions clinical services in a culturally competent manner to outpatient clients including evaluation, individual, group, family counseling, case management and documentation of clinical services consistent with program standards and relevant OARs. Services provided will reflect cultural competence and knowledge of evidenced based practices regarding the clients and their clinical concerns.
  • Collaborate with other clinical staff, including medical providers, to ensure that clients receive appropriate and coordinated care
  • Provide mentoring and clinical supervision of student interns and students, as needed
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and case consultation meetings
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other program staff, Department of Psychiatry, and other OHSU departments, referral sources, and other community agencies
  • Meet clinical productivity standards as established for the position

Required Qualifications:

  • Qualified as a LPC, LMFT or LCSW
  • Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, psychology or another related behavioral health discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct an assessment, including identifying precipitating events, gathering histories of mental and physical health, substance use, past mental health services and criminal justice contacts, assessing family, cultural, social and work relationships, and conducting a mental status examination, complete a five-axis DSM diagnosis, write and supervise the implementation of a Service Plan and provide individual, family or group therapy within the scope of their training
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in providing evidence-based treatment of mental health and addictive disorders

Must have cultural competence in working with the African and African-American communities, as demonstrated by all of the following:

  • In-depth knowledge of impact of African-American history on African-American culture and psychology
  • Ability to work clinically with issues of systematic oppression, racism and discrimination, including teaching clients a comprehensive skill set to deal with these concerns
  • Ability to assist clients in developing a healthy African or African-American identity
  • Two plus years of working with African-Americans and/or Africans
  • Five or more years of experience of immersion in African-American culture
  • For treatment staff holding certification in addiction counseling, qualifications for the certificate must have included at least:
  • 750 hours of supervised experience in substance use counseling
  • 150 contact hours of education and training in substance use related subjects
  • Successful completion of a written objective examination or portfolio review by the certifying body
  • For treatment staff holding a health or allied provider license, the license or registration must have been issued by one of the following state bodies and have at least 60 contact hours of academic or continuing professional education in substance use disorders treatment:
  • Board of Medical Examiners
  • Board of Psychologist Examiners
  • Board of Licensed Social Workers
  • Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists
  • Board of Nursing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical licensure as an LPC, LMFT or LCSW
  • Experience working with children, families and couples
  • Experience with both adults and adolescents
