Our office, warehouse, and studio are in Walton, NY.

Basic Functions:

  • Shipping small items sold on the website. This includes logging on to our web host provider BigCommerce.com and gathering order information such as address, customer name and items purchased.
  • Then taking the items from the storage shelf, cleaning them if necessary, capturing funds for the order through BigCommerce and packing the items for shipping. Finally, you will be printing shipping labels using programs such as PirateShip and UPS WorldShip.
  • Shipping large items sold on the website.
  • In addition to the same process described above, the shipping associate will coordinate the building of pallets with a 3rd party and modify the pallets by adding extra compartments to fit our needs. This involves sawing, nailing, drilling etc.
  • Finally, you will be packing the items in the pallet and scheduling freight delivery with an LTL freight provider.
  • Receiving inventory from vendors. This includes, with the aid of a checklist, counting the inventory received, inspecting it for damage and sorting the inventory into their appropriate storage locations. Finally, all information about inventory received will be recorded electronically using Excel, Google Sheets, PDFs and more.
  • Preparing delivery to our retail store. This includes pulling items requested by the store from storage and packing them for delivery. Finally, loading our van for delivery to NYC. Being able to lift 50 pounds is necessary, often plastic totes will weigh close to that. During the winter, most of this process is done outside.
  • Reconcile web stock. Maintaining an accurate inventory count for website items by counting them periodically as requested by the Office Associate and updating the information on our web host provider BigCommerce.com.
  • Janitorial duties and groundskeeping: You will be responsible for vacuuming the shipping room, cleaning the bathroom floors and the toilet, vacuuming, and cleaning the surfaces in the kitchen and taking out the trash. You will also be responsible for shoveling the snow and salting the walkways, as well as cleaning the porches of the building. Cleaning the gutters and driveway will also be part of your responsibilities. The maintenance of the building will be your responsibility. Also, maintaining salt in the water softener as well as changing the water filter.
  • Driving and van maintenance. You will be responsible for driving our van to the repair shop, two located in Walton, the other is in Norwich. Also, you will be driving to our storage area in Walton as well as driving to the gas station. You will also be responsible for basic maintenance, changing wiper blades, topping off fluids, maintaining tire air pressure etc. Extra consideration will be given to candidates willing to drive our delivery van long distances. Once every two weeks we drive to NYC. It is a 3:30 hour drive to our retail store in NYC.
  • The above responsibilities are not exhaustive but are responsibilities you will encounter on the job most often.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills. You will be using Google Sheets, Excel, BigCommerce, Microsoft Word, Windows File Explorer, DropBox, PirateShip, UPS WorldShip and PDF daily, therefore some comfort with technology is important.
  • Basic maintenance person skills.
  • Being able to install shelves, assemble furniture and hang pictures, patch wall holes with plaster etc is a definite plus.
  • A good driving records.
  • Your driving record affects our insurance rate, so a good driving record is important even if you are just driving the van to the repair shop or gas station.
  • High energy. We make a delivery to our store once every two weeks, therefore the workflow follows with it. Often, there is a crunch period in the 2 days leading to the delivery and having high energy is a definite plus.
  • Versatility. We are a small company of 12 people. We have one retail store in NYC and our web business and fabrication department in Walton, NY. All our employees must wear many hats, one day you might be shipping packages to customers and the next you might be asked to help a fabricator in cleaning a full size taxidermy alligator or a taxidermy African baboon.
  • Strong stomach. We are a natural history home decor shop, and we do sell dead animals and human bones to medical professionals. Sometimes you will be asked to dispose of dead animals or animal carcasses. You will also be handling dead insects, centipedes and spiders included.
