Fund for the Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME) is looking for a Summer Test Preparation Teacher
About FAME:
FAME was established more than 28 years ago to provide need-based financial assistance to African American students, making a high-quality independent school education possible for students with limited financial resources. FAME also provides its scholars with tutoring, internships, academic enrichment courses, leadership and career awareness workshops and an annual college tour or leadership related excursion.
As FAME continues to prepare middle school students to fully realize their educational opportunities through the FAME Academy program, the organization is seeking experienced and enthusiastic teachers to serve as faculty for its 2021 Summer program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
FAME Academy is looking for a test prep instructor that will develop and implement a curriculum that prepares students for the verbal, quantitative and mathematical components of the ISEE and SSAT exams. While working with students, test prep instructor will recognize how to best create a plan for catering across different subject areas. Through creating an engaging curriculum, the instructor will aid in the development of the students’ test taking skills and demonstrate how to navigate questions and make educated guesses with multiple choice questions on the exams. The responsibilities of the Academy Test Prep Teacher include but are not limited to:
Design a remote learning curriculum
Preparation to work with students through a blended learning model in person during the six weeks of the summer program
Teaching, guiding and mentoring students
Modeling and teaching leadership skills
This is a contract position for the Summer of 2021 (six weeks from June 21 through July 30) that will require some preparation and orientation time during the month of June. This program is planning to blend instruction remotely (70%) and in-person (30%). The position could also be extended to include work on Saturdays during the school year. No Saturday work is required during the summer or holiday breaks.
Ideal Candidates Demonstrate:
- Encouraging, thoughtful, dynamic personalities
- Bachelors or Advanced degree
- Experience working with students in grades 7-9
- Able to commit to (how many hours/days?) for 6 weeks
- Knowledge of the ISEE and SSAT components (all areas or math/verbal/quantitative)
- Knowledge of PSAT, SAT and ACT preferred
- Great communication skills and the ability to engage students
- Minimum 1 year test prep teaching or tutoring experience
- Well versed at using technology to conduct effective remote instruction
- Comfort teaching in person following COVID protocols, as well as teaching virtually depending on pandemic conditions at the time of the class
