About:

The St. Joseph African Methodist Episcopal Church is a vibrant and active church community located in Durham, North Carolina. We are looking for a master multi-tasker with excellent communication skills and an upbeat attitude. Candidates should be able to assist the church by handling office tasks, providing polite and professional assistance via phone, mail, and e-mail, and generally being a helpful and positive presence in the workplace. The Administrative Assistant reports to the Church Business Administrator and the Senior Pastor.

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Pandemic Schedule- 9:00 am-5:00 pm Mon-Fri.
  • Some Saturdays may be needed, work week hours will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Post Pandemic Schedule- 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm Mon – Thursday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Saturday

Education: Associate (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Customer Service: 1 year (Preferred)

Shift Availability:

  • Day Shift (Preferred)
  • Night Shift (Preferred)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handling general office tasks, such as filing, data entry, checking messages, scheduling meetings, and reordering supplies.
  • Greet and assist members and visitors.
  • Answer and screen all incoming calls, routing them to the appropriate departments when available and taking messages as needed.
  • Assist with mail correspondences, both electronic and traditional.
  • Executes the policies and procedures of the church.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly office.
  • Assist with updating the church’s calendar, scheduling for important dates, meetings, and events within the church facility.
  • Assist with creating and publishing the church bulletin with notices of major events.
  • Assist with website and social media updates and posts weekly.
  • Respond to information requests and completes corresponding forms.
  • Enter new member and visitor information into the church’s database and send notices and acknowledgements on important dates.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to work at a fast pace and meet weekly deadlines
  • Proficient computer, office equipment and internet skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational skills. Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Courteous and tactful with members, especially in times of grief and crisis
  • Exercise exceptional judgment in dealing with sensitive and personal issues
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Must be comfortable using technology
